The Real Weight of Stones
2011 – ongoing
Plastic paint on rocks
Dimensions variable
Calculating the weights of the rocks by measuring their heights and perimeters, the artist scribes the results on the matching rocks with temporary paint. Through this act, he develops a new way of communication between humans and nature, diverting people’s attention to the character of natural formations. The area in the mid-Black Sea region of Turkey, where the artist works, is the last wild zone on the shoreline that the coastal highway reaching out to Georgia has not ruined. This move aims to strengthen the dialogue between nature and humans by inventorying natural rocks in the sea. It also refers to how people tend to restrain what is around them through specific criteria.
