Fragment

2023

Oil on canvas, handmade wooden frame

170 x 360 cm

The theory that Earth was formed from a fragment of the sun, which has cooled down in time, takes shape in this work as an amorphous piece of stone defining itself as “Earth.” Contrary to the common narratives forming the subject of triptych works, this triptych visualizes the theory based on the stone while staying with the tradition by using gold-plated frames. On the first panel, the stone is portrayed with Earth’s actual weight, on the second one, continents and ocean trenches are on the surface of this egg-shaped stone. The third panel shows a section of this stone revealing the internal layers through the inner core. Referring to Earth’s quality of bringing into existence, the work creates new ways of perceiving the planet by showing fragments from its states of distant past.
